January 9, 2010 marks the start of the yearlong activities for credit cooperatives to celebrate the 50th year of the Asia’s first Credit Union Federation – the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives or PFCCO.
PFCCO’s erstwhile pioneers and their contemporaries are among those who gathered to grace the momentous event that will mark the history of Philippine cooperative movement. Among the notable leaders who gave their welcoming statements are the PFCCO (formerly PHILCUL) staff who is now a CDA senior specialist Nerie Lopez of MEO, the son of PFCCO founding Chairman Mr. Jay Brillantes and his wife, St. Martin of Tours Credit and Development Cooperative’s present Chairman Mr. Rustico Galang Jr. and their CEO Ms. Cristy Naigan was also present to witness the unveiling of the anniversary icon to mark the federation’s golden years. Atty. Neil Santillan was also present to pronounce his elation on the occassion that adds another milestone in the Philippine Cooperative history.
Former council member Lovenia Naces from Mindanao presented some details about the book that illustrates the first fifty years of PFCCO. And shared her insights and memories with the organization that opened her opportunity to be of service with others. “this is my way of paying back what the institution gave me during my early days in the movement”. All the PFCCO regional officers, Managers and Staff and former officers made certain to be present to celebrate the special occasion.
