PFCCO 50 (GOLDEN) YEARS SONGWRITING COMPETITION
Theme: Empowering People the Cooperative Way: PFCCO’s 50 Years of Excellence
Who May Join: PFCCO member cooperatives and its individual members.
Requirements for the Work:
1. The melody and text/lyric/poetry of the song must be wholly original.
2. The performance duration of the song must be 2 – 3 minutes.
3. The text/lyric/poetry must be in Tagalog or English or may be a combination of both (“Taglish”).
4. An individual may submit only one (1) entry. Once s/he has submitted an entry as a composer and/or writer of text/lyric/poetry, s/he may not submit another entry whether as an individual or as part of a collaborative effort.
Requirements for the Entry:
1. The entry must not have entered the Finals of, nor have won in, any other Song-writing Competition
2. The entry must not have been published, recorded, and/or released in the Philippines or abroad
3. The melody of the work must be performed as a single vocal line. Back-up vocal arrangements and/or arrangements for more than one vocal line are not allowed.
4. The accompaniment to the vocal line may consist of more than a single instrument or instrumental combinations.
Format of the Entry:
1. The entry must be submitted in a single packet (long brown manila envelope), containing
a. one (1) CD
b. eight (8) copies of the text/lyric/poetry
c. eight (8) typed or printed sheets each containing the following:
i. the Title of the Entry
ii. the Name/s of the Composer/s and Writer/s of the text/lyric/poetry
Each of the sheets in (b) must bear the original signature/s of the creator/s of the melody and text/lyric/poetry of the entry.
d. the duly completed entry forms bearing the originals of required signatures
2. The entry must be submitted in CD format.
a. The CD on its face must bear only the title of the entry.
b. The content of the CD must consist only of the entry itself.
3. The name/s of the composer and/or writer of the text/lyric/poetry must not appear on the printed copies of the text/lyric/poetry.
Mechanics of Submission of Entries:
1. The complete Entry Packet must be delivered or arrive by mail no later than July 1, 2010. The Entry Packet cannot and will not be received on a Saturday, Sunday, and on an official public and/or government holiday. Hand-delivered entries will only be received between 9 am and 4 pm. 2. Any and all contents of the Entry Packet shall not be returned and shall become the property of the Competition Secretariat.
Screening and Judging Criteria:
25%: Adherence/Suitability/Appropriateness of the Text/Lyric/Poetry to the Theme
30%: Melody
20%: Harmony
25%: Appropriateness and Inventiveness of the Combinations of Music and Textual elements
Guidelines and Mechanics for Screening and Judging:
- From the pool of entries, the Screening Committee shall choose any number of finalists it deems fit.
- The Creator/s (Composer/s; Lyricist/s) of the finalist-entries shall be informed by e-mail and mail.
- The finalist-entries shall be performed and judged on a Final Performance Competition Night, to be held at the Barangka Credit Cooperative function hall, Barangka, Marikina City on Saturday August 21, 2010 at 7 pm.
- Responsibility for the (solo) vocal performances will be shouldered by the entry Creator/s.
- The instrumental accompaniment may be shouldered by the entry Creator
- If desired by the entry Creators, the competition will provide for the Finals Night
Performance-Competition three instrumentalists, instrumental arrangements, instruments for any or all of three instruments: Organ, Drums, and Bass Guitar.
a. Two (2) instrumental arrangement revisions and the first arrangement submission tothe finalist/s will be sent back and forth between the duly assigned arrangers and the entry Creators via MP3 (Computer e-mail) format.
b. will send their recommendations and suggestions after the first submission by the arrangers via e-mail.
c. Only two (2) revisions after the first submission will be provided.
d. Should the second revision not be approved by the Creator/s, the Creator/s shall undertake the arrangement and final competition performance accompaniment on their own and will be required to furnish their own instruments if needed for the said night (in addition to the provided Organ, Drum Set, and Bass Guitar attachments).
e. The arrangements shall be availed of on an “all-or-nothing” basis; that is, the entry-Creators cannot opt to use only part of the group of instrumentalists or part of the arrangements provided by the competition. They may, however, opt to use only part of the instruments provided and augment these with their own, provided that the physical set-up of any single entry can be accommodated within assigned rehearsal time frame and limit for that entry.
f. The decisions of both the Screening and Judging Committees shall be final and binding upon all parties.
Parameters of Participation:
1. The Entry Creators (composers/lyricists) shall hold the Philippine Federation of credit Cooperatives (PFCCO) and its affiliates, all its officers and employees, and all members of the PFCCO Song Contest committees free and harmless from any suit, obligation, debt, demand, expense or liability arising from any fraud or misrepresentation in connection with his/her/their entry submitted to the said competition.
2. The participant, by entering a song in the PFCCO Song Writing Contest, warrants that s/he has not been contracted by a third party. The participant shall not negotiate and/or contract any such third party for any use of the song until after the announcement of the finalists, and if declared a finalist.
3. A finalist will not be allowed to waive his/her/their participation in the competition.
4. The PFCCO shall have exclusive rights to the use of the composition locally and internationally. PFCCO shall retain the amount equivalent to ten percent (10%) of any and all sums actually received from the mechanical, performance, printed publishing rights, motion picture and video synchronization pertinent to the competition, and monetary awards received from the participation in international festivals.
5. PFCCO reserves all rights to the public performance of the finalist song-entries from the date of submission until the announcement of winners during the Finals Night.
6. All finalists are required to attend and participate in all promotional, publicity, production, recording, rehearsal, and finals night activities connected to the competition and all other promotional and publicity activities connected with the competition after the Finals Night without remuneration.
7. The presence of the finalists at the competition proper, on or off stage, shall likewise be without remuneration.
